Subject: [*] Althea 1.1 for Kaleidoscope

Althea is a color scheme for use with Kaleidoscope 1.0.1.

In creating this, I took the Aaron scheme and made a lot of changes. Of
course,
I've left a lot of things the same because I liked them that way. Basically,
if
you've used Aaron before (I'm sure you have) and you use this, you'll see the
difference. I've put a lot of work into this, and whether anyone thinks this
is
original or a hack, I believe it's original. The key interface features
(close,
grow, hide boxes, scoll buttons and arrows, etc.) are like nothing I've
seen yet
and I hope that I'm not the only one who thinks they're cool.

This is freeware. I ask nothing for it. If you really want to send me
something, I guess I can't stop you.

Version history:

1.1 Added custom check and cross checkboxes.
Fixed small file icon masking problem. Adding new B&W icm's still cause
"half-icon" problem.

"Althea" is the title to a song from the Grateful Dead's "Go To Heaven"
album. It's easy goin' and smooth - a good listen.

Althea LED differs from Althea in that the "indicators" are green for
normal and red for
pressed instead of just dark dark gray. I did make the dark gray ones
first, but as I was
doing it, the idea for little LED indicator lights came to my head. I
couldn't decide which
was better so I made both at the same time.

Subject: [*] Bio-Marine Wolfenstein levels

"A new weapon has been created." You can still hear your Captain shouting
at you in your mission briefing." "The united Earth military will be
commanding the assault on the castle were the weapon is contained,
according to sources it is a new biological weapon. Obviously we can not
allow this weapon or the information on it to exist longer than normal. So
we have decided to storm the building imediatly. Cadet Stawdem will also
be on the mission." The captain pointed a bony finger toward you. You can
not remeber much about the journey except that when you got there it was
decided that 4 would go in and re-inforcements would be called as needed.
You sat there with the other men. Souldenly the radio turned
on."REINFORCEMENTS WE NEED ALL REINFO......." The radio turned itself off.
You took a pistol which you concealed in your sock and a machine gun. You
ran in to the building. You sat behind a table ocasionaly shooting your
machine gun at the gaurds. They got closer, and then you saw. They were
mutants. One by one your fellow officers were killed. You threw your
hands up in the air and the last thing you remeber was geting something
thrown at you. You then woke up in the cell. You were sleeping until a
gaurd came in with your food. He kicked you but your kept your eyes shut.
He had forgotten the water he left the door open while we went to get the
water. You opened your eyes got out the gun, and walked out of your cell.
The Bio-Marine demo archive includes the Bio Marine Demo file. A simple to
fill in registration program and the scenario file. Registration is free
of a money chrage although you must swap a full shareware program of yours
for the full version.

Subject: [*] DeskBots Bonus

The "DeskBots Bonus Folder" archive is a collection of 5 personality
files, 13 background sounds, 20 default phrase files, and
QuickPhrase/scripting examples for use with DeskBots from GL Software.
These files have been updated for use with DeskBots 1.1. If you already
have DeskBots 1.0 and the "DeskBots Goodies Vol. 1" archive, then you do
not need this file.

DeskBots is an anti-productivity toy; a cross between the old
Talking Moose and the HAL9000. Once configured, your DeskBot will offer
"helpful" advice, warn you of impending doom, alert you to the presence
of excess matter in the universe, and generally do everything it can to
distract you from getting any work done. It has been described as
"artificial artificial-intelligence" and "riotous fun", and was even
featured in the Swedish edition of MacWorld. Give DeskBots a try today!
Once you do, your Mac just won't seem the same without it!

DeskBots is shareware ($10.00) and requires a 68030 or faster
processor, MacOS 7.5 or better, Apple's PlainTalk Text-to-Speech
software, and at least 1 Mb of free RAM. Speakers and a monitor capable
of displaying thousands of colors are recommended but not required.

creativity, you can create your own DeskBots personality or edit existing
personalities to suit your tastes. An instruction manual and tutorial
files are included. The DeskBots Workshop requires Apple's PlainTalk TTS
software and 2Mb free RAM. It is free to registered DeskBots users.

DeskBots is a desktop toy, something of a robotic sidekick, with
multiple faces, sounds, and voices, that resides inside your Mac and
brings out the personality that you always knew was there. Your DeskBot
will offer "helpful" advice, warn you of impending doom, alert you to the
presence of excess matter in the universe, and generally attempt to

Subject: [*] Drill 1.1

Drill is a simple and efficient freeware program to drill list of
words, as all highschool students have to do to learn a foreign
language.

Enter the words you want to learn and their translations, and exercise
until you know them. It should be pretty obvious how to use the program,
the only skill required (or to be developed) is some typing experience ...

The order in which the words are asked has been optimized to learn
them as fast as possible. Using checkboxes you may restrict Drill to ask
only certain words, for example only words you are having problems with.

Enjoy, and let me know what you think of it or which improvements you
would like. I will try to fix any bug which comes to my attention!

The latest version and information is available at:

Permission granted to include Drill on any Info-Mac CD-ROM.

Subject: [*] POLYCHEM chemistry demo

This chemistry demo provides a titration module from a comprehensive multimedia
tutorial and simulation tool that helps teachers and students by providing
literally hundreds of hours of student activity. The software is aimed at
senior
high school to junior college levels, with an emphasis on the applied nature of
chemistry. Most high schools use it for years 11 and 12.

Research has shown that the students using the software are well motivated and
enjoy using the software. They prefer the software to traditional types of
instruction and have more have fun in chemistry. Students are on task for a
longer time and have been more motivated. This environment can be used a
significant teaching tool, not just as a supplement. Students are empowered to
take more responsibility for their own learning and can spend time learning,
not
just copying down notes.

The program contains notes, computer generated interactive questions and exam
questions from a large number of chemistry topics, the demo shows a titration
section. There are also many simulations of equipment and of chemical
processes.
There is also an extensive section on organic chemistry that contains notes,
interactive sections, simulations questions and nomenclature problems. There
are
also chemistry based games, demonstrations and activities. A key feature is the
provision of model answers for the computer generated questions to help student
reflection and analysis.

The text notes displayed can be modified on screen, even over a network, and
printed. The text can be enlarged using the controls for use by the teacher on
a
classroom projector or to benefit students with visual impairments. Examination
questions can be added and altered, and facilities are included so that other
developers can add topics and modules. Provided the user has write privileges
to
a disk, then assignment marks can be recorded as well as user names, times and
dates.

Computers required are Macintosh, 16mB RAM recommended (there is also a Windows
version). The program uses 4mB of physical ram so it may run on 8mB machines if
there are few memory intensive extensions. A Mac 040 would be the minimum
configuration computer, with a colour 640 x 480 screen.

Subject: [*] Spice3f4_16 Analog Circuit Simulator

23-Feb-97 from: brett.larson@mts.com

Spice is an analog circuit simulation program. Version 1.5 is based on the
University of California at Berkeley Spice version 3f4 . Circuit
descriptions are entered as a Spice netlist with any text editor and then
analyzed with the Spice program. The program can perform AC, DC, Transient,
Pole-Zero, Sensitivity, Transfer, Noise and Distortion analysis. Commands
are entered into a text based command shell [O.K., it is not very Macintosh
like but it preserves the original flavor and power] that allows both
graphical plotting to the screen and printing. Major enhancements from
version 1.4 are:

   - based on Spice3f4 versus Spice3e2
   - a native PowerPC version exists
   - support for printing with the hardcopy command
   - improved preferences setup
   - more devices are supported
   - more analysis are supported.

Two CPU versions are included. One for the 68K that requires an FPU, the
other for the PowerPC. Both versions should work on any MacOS greater than
System 7.1. This is a large program and large circuits can consume large
amounts of RAM. The minimum RAM required is 1536K, although much more is
recommended.

This program may be freely redistributed on a not-for-profit basis as long as
all references to the University of California at Berkeley remain intact. It
also may be included on commercially available CD-ROM versions of the
archives as long as only a nominal media fee is charged.

Subject: [*] Treefrog Chemistry Qual Analysis v1.0 040

This shareware chemistry game uses the latest decendent of the Hungry Frog
style learning game which won four mice from MacUser Software Central. If
you've resorted to learning organic chemistry qualitative analysis by
putting your bookunder your pillow or just banging your head on a desk,
this game is for you! Maybe you understand all the organic chemistry behind
qualitative analysis, but your head still swims when you try to pick which
reagent to use on a methyl ketone? This game will get you up to warp speed
in no time. Automatic feedback loops focus on chemical reagents you have
trouble with, and you can get a statistical report on your progress at any
time during game play. This Macintosh program uses the new Treefrog 3D
arcade game - built with homeschoolers in mind. Schools can site license.
