Dear T Koyn & Digest readers,
iTunes which has been all the rave, exports song lists if you select
all the tunes in the library to a text file. Here is the sample
output:

No. 28 A major	Ludwig van Beethoven	Piano Sonatas (28, 29),
Kempff	Classical	8463016	352	2	8
	3/18/2001 5:58 PM	3/18/2001 5:50 PM	192	44100
	0	MPEG audio file Macintosh
HD:Documents:iTunes:iTunes Music:Ludwig van Beethoven:Piano Sonatas
(28, 29), Kempff:No. 28 A major#2.mp3

By the way, it converts songs to MP3, looks up songs in the CDDB,
does variable bitrate encoding, does joint stereo and so much more.
The Export song list is in the Advanced menu.

Sincerely,
abrody@smart.net

Subject: [*] Peek-a-Boo 1.6J - Japanese Version

Peek-a-Boo is a utility to monitor and manipulate all running processes.
You can watch how much CPU time each process uses, adjust the CPU time
requested by each process, and look at any piece of information
available through the Process Manager.

The Process Manager (available in MacOS System 7 and later) maintains a
dozen or so pieces of information about each running process (normally
an application); many fine utilities show a subset of this information.

My personal motivation for writing Peek-a-Boo was that no existing
utility showed precisely the subset of Process Manager information I
needed to know at a given time. So I made sure that Peek-a-Boo can show
any piece of information available via the Process Manager; preferences
can be edited to view only those pieces of information you need. And,
with the Special Technology of Peek-a-Boo ST, you can now adjust the
priorities of processes to customize which processes get more processor
time.

Peek-a-Boo 1.6 offers a new Apple Event interface for programmers.

CSM Pack and ramBunctious both use different aspects of this interface.

Peek-a-Boo 1.6 allows you to start typing a process name and it selects
that process. This feature has been frequently requested, and we're glad
to announce its availability.

Peek-a-Boo 1.6 also allows left- and right-arrow keypresses to cycle
through processes in the order that they're located in memory. This can
make it easier to select specific processes when you're trying to make a
contiguous range of memory available.

Several minor bugs have been fixed.

Subject: [Q] CD-R error: "Please insert a recordable CD"

I have a baffling CD-R problem. Each time I try to write a CD, the
recorder refuses to recognize the disk I insert. I have tried
multiple brands and colors, but no luck. What is most baffling is
that it just decided to do this after functioning fine for some
months (but only about a dozen disks burned) and have changed
nothing. I have tried compressed gas (in the can) to see if dust had
accumulated, but no such luck. Any suggestions appreciated. Think it
is DoA?

Config: 603e machine, int. SCSI Philips CDD2000, Toast 4 (and have
tried toast 5.0b6).
Many thanks in advance!

I use Synchronize! from Qdea.

http://www.qdea.com/sync.html

Allocate enough memory to it, and you can use it to backup your entire
hard drive to an external drive. It's very reliable. And the author,
Hugh Sontag, updates Synchronize! from time to time whenever the Mac
operating system necessitates a tweak.

Soundjam MP can do this. At least on the major ID3 tags (but not channels).

Subject: OS 9.1 and Apple DVD Player

After upgrading to OS 9.1 on my iMac DV SE I found that my Apple DVD
Player does not function anymore. Sometimes it says that it does not
support my monitor, sometimes it freezes after starting the DVD. The
CD-Rom player works fine. I checked several upgrades from apple: Apple
DVD Player 2.2, DVD-ROM firmware and iMac DVD-ROM Update but all
installers do not work. I get two types of error messages:
- Requires OS 9.0.1 or higher (I have 9.1!)
- Requires an iMac with a DVD player (which is exactly what I have)
I'm affraid I'm in serious trouble here. Who can help me out

thanks in advance,

Jan
