Subject: [*] ][2Mac 2.0 Beta 11

A new version of ][2Mac has been released recently and can be downloaded
from my homepage http://www.caiw.nl/~adam

][2Mac is a set of 3 applications, 1 for the Mac and 2 for the Apple-][,
that allow you to backup and restore Apple-][ floppies to/from a Mac.
The floppy-image is stored on the Mac in a format that is recognized by
IIe, the Apple //e emulator for the Mac, written by Victor and Vincent Tan
(see: http://www-personal.usyd.edu.au/~vtan/sw/index.html).

One of the users of ][2Mac even reported, that he has successfully
transferred DOS 3.3-, ProDOS- as well as Pascal-formatted disks from
his Apple //e to his Mac, and that he is using the diskimages now
on his Mac, in the IIgs emulator called 'Bernie ][ the Rescue'
(see: http://www.magnet.ch/emutech/Bernie/).

Also... ][2Mac enables you to use a Macintosh to send out and receive
Apple-][-disks to and from your friends over the internet...

version history:
19-jun-1999, v2.0ك11
-Instead of just saying 'Transmission error' ][2Mac will now report what
 error it encountered
-Just a few minor mods, not being bugfixes
-IIgs-to-Macintosh transfers are supported now, transfers from the Mac
 towards a IIgs is still under development

Kind regards,
Adam van Gaalen

Chac is a complete maya calendar for the Macintosh. Requires System 7.
Fat binary runs on 68k or PPC. Does all maya calendar conversions and

Subject: [*] DarkLight 1.3.5, a Kaleidoscope color scheme

DarkLight for Kaleidoscope 2 is a tri-tone classic grayscale color scheme
for apple lovers. It is easy on the eyes. All 18 color accents are active
with the original Kaleidoscope gold tone used in place of the OS 8
green-gold accent. This update adds larger document window widgets, a 32
bit icon, a new "About Box", lightens the inactive windows and fixes a few
glitches here and there. The package includes some desktop patterns and a
custom theme for Extensions Strip users.

DarkLight X2 for Kaleidoscope 2 is a re-working of my original DarkLight
scheme. X2 features a new menu, new buttons and tabs, plus the integration
of folders, icon labels, finder windows and text, desktop pattern and
windows around a silver and lavender theme. An even more classic design for
apple lovers! Version 1.3.0 adds, among other things, a new desktop
pattern, a new scheme icon, a new "About" box and larger window widgets,
plus a few minor fixes. Freeware.

Subject: [*] DarkLight*Soft 1.1.5, a Kaleidoscope color scheme

DarkLight*Soft for Kaleidoscope 2 is the fourth in the DarkLight series. It
sports a blue and gray motif combined with understated shading throughout.
D/L*Soft uses an indented selected menu item with a gray menu accent over
black text, a departure from the other D/L versions. It also has boxed
empty scroll arrow areas and lighter inactive windows, and the classic,
square dark windows have been lightened a bit compared to the original
DarkLight. My intent here was to create a DarkLight for those times when
eyes are tired or overwhelmed by using bright schemes. This version fixes a
problem with very small movable dialogs/alerts, repairs the small hard disk
icon and changes the "About Box" and the inactive progress indicator.
Freeware.

DarkLight...Tabs for Kaleidoscope 2.x is a twotone grayscale color scheme
featuring centered tabs on all document windows, dialogues and alerts,
instead of full width windows. These tabs allow for easy access to the
desktop. This scheme has a soft appearance and uses both French blue and
gold accents. A custom theme for Extensions Strip is included. Version
1.2.1 changes the "About Box", darkens the normal LSF/SSF tabs and the
desktop pattern and changes the desktop icon label. Freeware.

Subject: [*] DataProtector

You may include this program anywhere. Keywords for placement in Infomac
archives:  security, encryption, password,  privacy.

Will work on any Mac. Requires at least OS 7.6 . The attached file is a
full version of SecurePass. It is shareware ( $15.).

Highwinds Trading Company (http://www.highwinds.com) is pleased to
introduce SecurePass(tm), a desktop archiving utility for encrypted
passwords and other security keys. SecurePass is shareware ($15. US).
It is available via FTP at ftp://ftp.highwinds.com, and as an email
attachment via autoresponder at
mailto://1001-SecurePass.sit@ar.highwinds.com

The purpose of SecurePass is:

a. To give the networked professional maximum password and passkey
protection (with strong encryption), in a flexible and simple
environment where he memorizes just one password for access to all of
his other passwords and encrypted keys.

b. To allow the user to store these secure keys on the local disk
rather than remove them to a "more secure" place (which is rarely as
secure as one might imagine); also to allow multiple users to store
SecureKeys on a shared computer without compromising their individual
privacy.

c. To provide incentives for the user to use longer and more complex
passwords and security keys (inherently more secure). A random string
generator is included, as well as a tool that transfers a stored
password directly from SecurePass to the entry field where it is
required.

d. To remove the disincentives for the user to change his passwords
regularly. Simplistic and unchanging passwords is perhaps the
greatest security risk to today's networks. SecurePass allows the
user to change them more often without the risk of forgetting them or
having them become disorganized.

Notes about the Cryptography

The algorithms used by SecurePass are "SHA-1" for hashing and
"Blowfish" for encryption. Both are very secure and well-known in the
field of cryptography.

Subject: [*] Days To Go 2.1.1 - count the days to (or since) entered dates

Are you worried about the Millennium Bug, and frantically trying to count
the number of days left before the end of the world? Have you planned a big
holiday, and want to count the days remaining until you can escape from
work. Wondering how many days it has been since you were married? Then this
program is for you.

Days To Go is a simple reminder program that can be used for a variety of
purposes. As the name suggests, it can be used to count how many days it is
until a specific date. In addition, Days To Go can be used count how many
days it has been since a specific date. Recurring dates can be entered (for
example, Christmas or a birthday), and entries can be automatically deleted
once the date has passed (useful for once off occasions).

This version of Days To Go fixes two bugs related to selecting the colour
to use for the messages, and fixes a problem when editing dates that are
set to occur later than the 28th of the month.

DocJet is a wonderful utility for opening:
 1) objects (files, applications, controls, folders, disks and so on),
 2) groups of different objects by using specified applications,
 3) specified kind of objects by using alternative applications,
 4) specified kind of objects by using Internet Config's Post Process setting.

The first option works by means of keystrokes, the second through
dragging+keystrokes, the remaining by simple dragging. Naturally you may
also work from within DocJet, by using buttons.
You may create a data base containing all entries you need then remove all
aliases from desktop, leaving DocJet alone: it may supersede all af them!

DocJet is Internet Config, Drag Manager and Navigation Manager aware,
moreover it's Appearance savvy. It requires at least System 7 to run.

Vienna (A) - fLOW is a DSP computer program running on Apple Macintosh G3
(or fast PPC) machines. Written in MSP, it generates an ever-changing and
never repeating soundscape in real time that fills the space with flooding
sounds that resemble - metaphorically - the timbres of water, fire, earth,
and air.

Originally, this soundscape formed the basis of the site-specific
performance work-in-progress fLOW that was carried out in numerous steps
and took place in various location with changing musicians from different
fields like New Music, experimental jazz, free improvisation and New
Electronic Music.

Hardware & System Requirements
==============================

* Apple PowerPC G3 (or a PPC with at least 180 MHz) with 8 MB min. free RAM
* MacOS 7.5 or better

bunch of your files in several different ways. These situations and many
others can be easily and quickly handled by Grab Bag without any of the
usual window-clutter.

From: Karl Pottie <karlp@macbel.be>
Subject: [*] Keep It Up 2.2

Keep It Up version 2.2

What does it do ?

A. Keep your (server) applications running

Keep It Up (KIU) can relaunch selected applications if for some reason they
stop running (crashes, accidental quits,...) KIU can also restart your Mac
on a regular basis. This reduces the chance of anything going wrong in the
first place. KIU can also be told the keep one (server) application always
in front, which improves the performance of this application.

B. Remote Management

KIU can be used to remotely manage your Macintosh (server) using any
webbrowser. KIU has a tiny "embedded" webserver (running on a port of your
choice) that allows you to remotely:
*  restart/shutdown the Mac
* view, kill or restart running applications
*  launch applications
*  run Applescripts
* view logfiles generated by KIU or other applications
* get some info about the system (free disk space, uptime, ...)

The web interface approach has several advantages over remote management
solutions such as "Timbuktu Pro": you can manage the Mac from *any*
computer that has a webbrowser installed (Mac, PC, PDA, ...), it's
fast, doesn't slow down your Mac and is unlikely to cause conflicts
with other software.

KIU is $22 shareware and requires at least System 7.0 and Open Transport 1.1.1

Version 2.2 allows you to determine the order in which applications are
launched and allows you to set a delay
between the launch of applications.

Subject: [*] Leonardo IDE 3.4

Announcing new version: Leonardo IDE 3.4

A C programming environment for reversible execution and software
visualization.

It is especially well suitable for algorithm animation purposes.

Leonardo's executable file includes:

- a text editor with syntax coloring (based on Marco Piovanelli's WASTE
text engine;)
- a compiler for the ANSI C language;
- a compiler for the logic-based ALPHA visualization language;
- a fully-reversible virtual CPU for executing programs;
- built-in operating system facilities for process, I/O and memory management;
- an integrated logic-based general-purpose 2D visualization system;
- a simple graph editor.

Leonardo is distributed with a repository of C programs including several
implementations of classical algorithms, visualization/animation demos and
simple games such as Tetris.

Leonardo 3.4 (1.5 MB, PPC, MacOS 7.5 or higher) is free. See

http://www.dis.uniroma1.it/~demetres/Leonardo/ for details.

Major news in Leonardo 3.4: this version includes the FIRST reversible
implementation of the ANSI C library (except: qsort, ferror, clearerr,
remove, rename, tmpnam, tmpfile); improved the C Preprocessor; fixed many
bugs.

Subject: [*] MaBaSoft releases Quit CSM v1.7.5 D (German version)

What is Quit CSM?

You often run several applications at the same time and wish you could quit
them without having to activate them?
You would like to know their memory sizes and have your largest unused
memory block always under your eyes?
You would love to quit and restart the Finder and quit background-only
applications?
If so, then Quit CSM is what need.

With Quit CSM you can:
- quit applications without having to make them active: you can quit a
single application, all background applications or all running applications;
- quit and restart the Finder;
- quit background-only applications;
- display the largest unused memory block or the memory in use;
- show application sizes;
- enable a hot spot for showing and hiding the Control Strip;
- hide the background applications and show all running applications;
- automatically hide the front application before each context switch
(requires MacOS 8.0 or higher);
- restart and shut down your computer.

What's new in Quit CSM v1.7.5?

- The "Quit All BOAs" command has been added to the advanced Quit menu. It
enables you to quit all running background-only applications.

- Quit CSM displays application icons in the Quit and advanced Quit menus
(requires Mac OS 8.0 or higher or System 7.5 or higher with Appearance
Init).

- The previous version of Quit CSM introduced the possibility to enable a
hot spot for showing and hiding the Control Strip. Now the "Use large hot
spot" option has been added. Default hot spot size is 3x3 pixels, while the
large hot spot is 10x10 pixels. This option is useful when a screen wrap
extension or a high screen resolution are used.

- The "Hide Front Application before Switch" option is now saved across
restarts.

- The Memory Bar Color menu has been introduced. It is displayed by
command-clicking Quit CSM in the Control Strip when the memory bar is
visible and enables you to switch to a different memory bar color.

- The "Quit CSM Options" dialog box has been completely re-designed.

Subject: does Best Data's 56SPC card modem script not exist?

	I have gotten two cards from mac warehouse and they will not pickup
(the "virtual phone", you don't hear that on the line) to either have the
computer hear a dial tone on the line, nor have me hear dialing tones on
the line (only hear on speaker).
	The techs at mac warehouse were patient in walk throughs up to the
point of putting me on hold with Best Data. Then, we all lost patience and
finally hung up.
	Their external modem, with Best Data Smart One 56k V.90 from their
website does do the above. That was the only software I needed, not the
dumb installs of internet service providers (useless without a modem script
and phone call to their service provider). So, expecting the off hook sound
and dialing tones has its precident.
	Apple's system 8.6 install of ARA doesn't have this card's modem
script and I suspect it doesn't exist for apple and perhaps even apple
can't write one. I wonder whether I should invest any more of my time with
this brand card?
