Hi,
I'm sorry about the break in digests. I was away for a week and I had
thought that one of our helpers was going to do the digests. Unfortunately,
there seems to have been a miscommunication. :(

	Cheers,

[Sorry, folks. My fault. Had a _BIT_ of a bad week myself including a funeral
and a nasty bout with the flu.--Mike O'Bryan (moderator)]

Subject: [*] Capitalism Demo 1.02 - corporate empire building

Here's the Capitalism demo by Interactive Magic...

For those who don't know, this is a corporate empire-building game. Trade
stocks, build mines, logging camps, oil wells, farms, factories, retail
outlets, and R&D centers. The conditions for winning are defined by each
scenario. Has a "Civilization" kind of feel to it, ie there's a
bird's-eye view of a large map, with the various facilities being placed
in different spots. Very detailed management of the corporate empire, but
relatively easy to grasp, given a bit of time.

Demo specifics... a very helpful tutorial is included to get one started.
Only one scenario from the full game is enabled. Saving and loading saved
games is disabled. There's no time limit, though, so the one available
scenario is fully functional!

System Requirements (taken directly from the demo Readme file)
- 68030 or higher Macintosh or any Power Macintosh
- System 7.1 or higher
- 8Meg RAM required, 16M recommended
- 14MB hard disk space
- 256 color or better video
- QuickTime 2.0 or later required for playing music

Happy building!

At last: a game which doesn't require a Mac with a nuclear reactor under
the hood and 800 megabytes of RAM! Enemy Bomber Balloons gives decent
performance on a 68030 and is even better on an 040. Performs well on
slower 601's and great on 604's. Requires: System 7 or later, 68020 or
higher, a Mac capable of 32-bit addressing, and a monitor which is at
least 640 x 480 and can display 256 colors. This includes about 99.999%
of all Macs. Best of all, Enemy Bomber Balloons is FREEWARE! Now get to
blasting those balloons!

Subject: [*] Filip's Word Macros 1.2

Filip's Word Macros 1.2 is a collection of Word macros, adding
functions to Microsoft Word 6.0. The package contains:

*HTMLmaker 1.2.2 This macro converts your Word text
document to HTML format. It pays attention to the Word
formats and styles that you have applied on the document,
     converting them to HTML equivalents

*BookmarkMaker 1.1.2 Converts a structured text file with
URL addresses to a bookmark file, ready to be imported to
     Netscape or MS Internet Explorer.

*Reverter 1.0 As the name implies, this macro reverts a
document to the last saved version. A command not available
     in Word.

*Counter 1.0 Oddly enough Word does not include spaces when
counting characters in a document. This macro does.

*FileDeleter 1.0 Deletes the open and active document after
confirming that you really want to do this.

*Quoter 1.1 Quoter adds quotation marks on both sides of a
     selection.

The package includes a small installer. You don't have to be an
expert to install or use the macros.

Filip's Word Macros are also compatible with the Windows version
of MS Word.

I give permission for it to be included on the
Info-Mac CD-ROM.

'FoldIt (light) v.4.2.1' is a molecular modelling program to visualize and
manipulate protein coordinate files in the Brookhaven PDB format. The
protein structure can be manipulated easily in real time with the mouse,
zoomed or observed in stereo. Structure movement can also occur stepwise
for a more precise control. Animations can be created. Protein structures
can be analyzed. Several protein structures are included as example. The
present enhanced FAT binary version runs native on 68K and PPC machines.
Balloon and online helps are supported and a printable user manual is also
included.

This application may be included on the archive's CD-ROM and distributed

Subject: [*] FreePPP 2.5v2 files 1.0

FreePPP-2.5v2-files-1.0 aka "FPF 1.0"

The Internet Monkey (tm) Installer of MacPPP2.5.x is so smart that it
may know what you want done to your system better than you do. So I
created this more benign installer. This Compact Pro self-extracting
archive can be installed directly into the system folder, or into an
empty folder. Files contained herein were originally installed on
system 7.1 68030 MacTCP but should be compatible with 7.5.x MacTCP or
OT and should work on a PPC.

Q: What's wrong with the original FreePPP2.5 distribution?
A: The original distribution uses Internet Monkey. Unfortunately,
they have configured Internet Monkey to do some annoying stuff:

Internet Monkey:
* Quits all applications, even if you're only installing the Read Me.
* Updates and removes (or copys?) prefs files from your system folder.
* Creates those annoying "Backup" folders every time it's run.
* Requires 2500k of RAM.
* Does not completely explain everything that it does to your system.
* Humiliating experience of having to relinquish your Mac to an
Installer that you don't trust and/or don't like.

FPF:
+ You can use Compact Pro to extract only those files which you want
>From FPF. FPF provides you with the files you need and leaves it at
that.
+ When using the self-extracting feature of FPF, you can install into
an empty folder OR into your system folder. It prompts you for
permission to overwrite files with same names. (You should have your
previous version of PPP backed up anyway.) Oh, and you must manually
remove previous PPP/SLIP versions.
+ FPF does not affect your preferences files.
+ FPF runs in 300k.
+ FPF is a Compact Pro archive, tried and true, an accepted user
interface standard.
+ I have modified the standard file dialogue of FPF to make it a
little more clear for the newbie.

Subject: SCSI problems with 7.5.3 / 7.5.5

I have some problems that might be related.

Last month I bought a new PowerMac 8500/150 with 7.5.3, subsequently
upgraded to 7.5.5. I have a LaCie/Iomega Jaz drive, an older LaCie ZFP
120MB drive, and a Relax Technologies 88 MB Syquest drive on the external
SCSI bus. All those plus the 2GB internal drive are formatted with LaCie
Silverlining software. I also run the Now Utilities, version 6.5, and
Norton's FileSaver.

Before putting the Jaz on the PowerMac, I had it on my old IIci for file
transfer and it made frequent data transfer errors no matter how I set up
and terminated the SCSI bus. I thought perhaps it was just too fast for
the old CPU.

On the PowerMac I don't get data transfer errors but the whole system acts
flaky. Sometimes it can't access the ZFP disk at boot time and locks it
out. Sometimes the system crashes just as the finder is starting (removing
an init often fixes that, but which init is at fault seems to be random).
Files get corrupted -- eg, Norton reports damaged resource forks in
applications. One of the Jaz volumes can't be dismounted any more (error
numbers -58 and -410).

It's driving me crazy. I have reordered the bus, tried active and passive
termination, swapped cables, etc. to no avail. If anyone can shed any
light on this, I'll be very grateful.

Subject: SCSI problems with 7.5.3 / 7.5.5

We have a JVC archiver CD-ROM backup facility running on a PowerMac
7100/66. It has an AV rated hard drive and has always worked well under
system 7.1.2. Since upgrading the system to 7.5.3 and then to 7.5.5,
however, the drive appears to be unable to keep up with the required
transfer rate and the software reports an error "Drive ran out of data
because hard disc could not keep up with requests. Your source must be fast
enough to keep up with WCD-ROM drive". Having reinstalled 7.1.2 on the AV
drive and used that as the boot volume the archiver works flawlessly again.
Has anyone a clue as to what is going on? Does 7.5.3 / 7.5.5 need a SCSI or
other extension to enable the SCSI chain to work efficiently?

Subject: The "OPEN" box in Netscape doesn't retain the URL

Not so long ago - it may have been with Netscape 2.0.1 - if I clicked on
the "OPEN" box at the top of theNetscape screen a large empty rectangle
would open and you could type in the URL you wanted to connect to. If you
mistyped and received "URL not found" message you could reopen the rectanle
and the (incorrect) URL would still be there. You could then easily modify
the Locator.

Nowadays, when I reopen the rectangle it's blank and I have to retype the
entire URL. That's not too bad in most cases, but have you ever seen some
of Apple's URLs?

Question: I'm now running Netscape 3.0.1. Is the disappearing URL a
"feature" <g> of 3.0.1? BTW: I had the same situation with Version 3.0.
I've carefully looked in all the Options settings and cant find anything
that I can chage to make the URL remain the the box.

Any suggestions or comments?
