NewsWatcher 2.0b27
==================

June 5, 1995

This version fixes a serious error in authentication and a few other
errors and problems.

Errors fixed and other changes
------------------------------

Authentication for servers which only require authentication for posting
was completely broken in the 2.0b25 and 2.0b26 versions. This somehow
escaped the beta testing process. Fixed.

The font size preferences could sometimes get badly damaged when you
used NewsWatcher with Internet Config. Fixed.

At program startup, if you canceled the initial attempt to connect to
the news server, NewsWatcher presented a dialog asking if you wanted to
try again. Unfortunately, trying again never worked, because
NewsWatcher mistakenly thought that you had canceled again. Fixed.

With versions 2.0b25 and 2.0b26, if you used a third-party extension
such as SpeedyFinder7 or Helium to remove the Help menu, NewsWatcher
quickly ran out of memory due to a "memory leak" error in Apple's Help
Manager. We have found a workaround for this problem. The workaround
doesn't fix the error in the Help Manager, but it does avoid it so that
NewsWatcher doesn't run out of memory and functions properly when the
Help menu is removed.

The "Beep at end of group" option in the "Newsreading Options"
preferences topic was confusing. It has been replaced by two new
checkbox options named "Stop at end of subject list" and "Beep at end
of subject and group lists".
